Though the freshman, sophomore and senior classes are fully represented in the Inter-Class Council, the junior class has only one representative: Micaela Guajardo '10, president of her class.

The ICC consists of the Class Councils from each grade and is chaired by Raymond Sultan '09, president of his class. There are five positions on each class council: president, vice president, social chair, secretary and treasurer.

Each council lobbies for its respective class's concerns in Senate and plans, promotes and organizes major college events, such as Junior Ring and Fun Day.

Guajardo said there are various reasons as to why there is a lack of representation in the junior class like "the amount of people that are abroad and maybe just a lack of interest."

Senator Alyssa Chrobuck '09, VP for communications, who sat on Junior Class Council last year, also cited the high rate of juniors studying abroad as a deterrent to participation on the Junior Class Council.

"Junior year is a tough year for most people to be involved," she said.

Though junior participation is currently low, Chrobuck said when she served there was a full council for the busiest several months of the year, during the planning of events like Junior Ring.

In addition to issues juniors going abroad and lack of interest, Guajardo said she holds the ICC accountable for the low junior representation.

"ICC doesn't really advertise what we do," she said. "More people would be willing to apply knowing what they were getting themselves into."

Guajardo said a full Junior Class Council staff would make her obligations to the ICC easier and more productive, particularly with regard to planning.

She also said she has made adamant attempts to reach out to her class, but that the feedback has been tepid.

"I try to encourage students to email me with ideas," she said. "But I haven't really had an overwhelming response."

Senator Raymond Sultan '09, Chairman of the ICC, said the Junior Class Council assists other class councils with events like the freshman class's Winter Carnival and sophomore class's Spring Fling.

"Our purpose is to bring both our respective classes and the whole college community together," he said.

Though Guajardo is the sole member of the Junior Class Council, fellow members of the Senate offered their approval of her contributions to the council.

"We had a great group of people all working toward a common goal," Chrobuck said.
